Anatomy of an Online Service

Online Service

For our first online service, Amanda and I went to the church and set up in the sanctuary. Our Digital Media Director, Omar Rivera did a Facebook Live of us going from start to finish.

As the pandemic increased, it became apparent that probably we should have even less people together than the four that were there for the first week. So we tried something different.

This is how our second online service was put together:

  1. Our Music Director, Alan Doerksen played some music at home and recorded them as digital audio files.
  2. We played that music and Amanda sang to them, creating new files.
  3. I put together PowerPoint slides of the lyrics and Omar synced them to the audio files.
  4. Amanda and I recorded videos of the announcements, Psalm, Prayer, Bible reading and sermons.
  5. We sent those videos to Omar, who put them all together into what you saw on Sunday.
  6. Omar uploaded the final video onto our YouTube channel.
  7. I then posted that YouTube video onto our website and our Facebook page.

I share all this to say that putting together the online service is a team effort. I’m thankful for the people I get to work with and that we have the technology to get this out to you.
