How to Participate More in a Worship Service

One of the difficult things about worship services during COVID-19 is that we are not able to have congregational singing. There is a danger that worship could become a spectator sport.

We have tried to have some interactive elements, such as reading the Psalm together, responsive readings and calling out names during prayer.

But there are other ways to participate more in the worship service. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Look around the sanctuary and pray for the people who are there.
  • Pray for the people who are not there, including those watching on YouTube.
  • Pray for the leaders within our congregation.
  • While the worship team is singing, reflect on the words being sung since you don’t have to focus on singing.
  • Bring your Bible (the pew Bibles have been removed for safety reasons) and follow along.
  • Take notes on what God is speaking to you through the sermon or the rest of the worship service.
  • If you hear something worth sharing, share it on social media (yes, even during the service).

These are things that you can do if you come to the church building or if you are watching online. You can even do these things once the restrictions on singing are lifted.
